ALTHEA: samen werken aan klimaatneutrale regio’s

Hoe maken we onze regio’s klaar voor een klimaatneutrale toekomst? Met het Europese project ALTHEA testen we oplossingen in de praktijk samen met steden, bedrijven, onderzoekers en inwoners.

ALTHEA focust op peri-urbane gebieden: de zones tussen stad en platteland waar mobiliteit, industrie, energie en wonen samenkomen. Net daar liggen grote kansen om de transitie te versnellen.

Wat is ALTHEA?

ALTHEA is een Europees samenwerkingsproject dat loopt van november 2025 tot 2028. Het brengt partners uit heel Europa samen om te experimenteren met oplossingen voor klimaatneutraliteit. De kern van het project is de Transition Super Living Lab-aanpak (TSLL): een manier van werken waarbij oplossingen niet op papier blijven, maar getest worden in echte situaties. In vijf Transition Super Living Labs (waaronder Antwerpen, Rotterdam en Milaan) en drie replicatieregio’s worden 59 veelbelovende oplossingen getest.

Overheden, bedrijven, onderzoekers en inwoners werken samen om:

  • nieuwe ideeën te ontwikkelen
  • ze meteen in de praktijk te testen
  • en te verbeteren op basis van ervaringen

Zo groeit kennis die ook in andere regio’s toepasbaar is.

Wat doet Lantis binnen ALTHEA?

Lantis speelt een actieve rol in de Antwerpse regio en werkt samen met stad en partners aan concrete toepassingen.

  1. Sterkere samenwerking rond duurzame mobiliteit
    • Ondersteuning van 30 gemeenten in de vervoerregio
    • Uitbouw van een servicecentrum voor kennis en samenwerking
    • Workshops en tools voor lokale besturen
  2. Slimme multimodale knooppunten
    • Uitbouw van hubs waar verschillende vervoersmodi samenkomen
    • Integratie van deelmobiliteit en fietsvoorzieningen
    • Betere informatie via digitale tools (zoals routeplanners)
  3. Innovatieve mobiliteitsoplossingen
    • Mobiliteitsscans bij bedrijven
    • Stimuleren van gedragsverandering
  4. Duurzamer goederenvervoer
    • Cargo Park & Ride voor vrachtverkeer
    • Nachtlogistiek om drukte te spreiden
    • Digitale tools voor efficiëntere planning

Deze acties dragen bij aan minder uitstoot, minder filedruk en betere bereikbaarheid.

ALTHEA: working together towards climate-neutral regions

How do we prepare our regions for a climate-neutral future? Through the European project ALTHEA, we test solutions in real-life settings together with cities, businesses, researchers and local communities.
ALTHEA focuses on peri-urban areas: the zones between urban and rural environments where mobility, industry, energy and housing intersect. These areas offer significant opportunities to accelerate the transition.
 

What is ALTHEA?

ALTHEA is a European collaboration running from November 2025 to 2028. It brings together partners from across Europe to test innovative solutions for climate neutrality. At the heart of the project is the Transition Super Living Lab (TSLL) approach: a way of working that moves beyond theory, by testing solutions in real-life conditions. Across five Transition Super Living Labs (including Antwerp, Rotterdam and Milan) and three replication regions, 59 promising solutions are being explored.
Public authorities, businesses, researchers and citizens work together to:

  • develop new ideas
  • test them in practice
  • and refine them based on real-life experience

This approach builds practical knowledge that can be applied in other regions.

What does Lantis do within ALTHEA?

Lantis plays an active role in the Antwerp region, working with the city and local partners to deliver concrete solutions.

  1. Stronger cooperation on sustainable mobility
    • Supporting 30 municipalities in the transport region
    • Developing a service centre for knowledge sharing and collaboration
    • Organising workshops and providing tools for local authorities
  2. Smart multimodal hubs
    • Developing hubs where different modes of transport meet
    • Integrating shared mobility and cycling facilities
    • Improving information through digital tools such as route planners
  3. Innovative mobility solutions
    • Mobility scans for companies
    • Encouraging behavioural change
  4. More sustainable freight transport
    • Cargo Park & Ride for freight traffic
    • Night-time logistics to reduce congestion
    • Digital tools for more efficient planning

These actions help reduce emissions, ease congestion and improve accessibility.
